The Ultimate Guide to Lubricants and Vaginal Moisturizers

December 29, 2025

The Ultimate Guide to Lubricants and Vaginal Moisturizers

Hi everyone! For this special episode of Hormones and Hellfire, we're doing something a little different: a comprehensive review of lubricants and vaginal moisturizers.

‍

We spent our own money (none of this is sponsored!) on a wide variety of products — from drugstore basics to boutique brands — and we put them to the test! We're talking silicone-based, water-based, hybrids, and everything in between. Plus, we're breaking down vaginal moisturizers and explaining how they differ from lubricants.

‍

If you've ever stood in the drugstore aisle completely overwhelmed by options, or wondered if the expensive stuff is actually worth it... this episode is for you.

‍

Keep reading for our top picks for lubricants and vaginal moisturizers, or scroll to the end to find links to the full episode (and the full transcript if you prefer reading!)

‍

‍

Top 5 Lubricants

‍

1. Uberlube (Silicone-Based)

‍

Why we love it: This is our number one pick for good reason. Uberlube is a pure silicone-based lubricant that delivers on every front: performance, packaging, and longevity.

‍

The experience: Super slippery, lasts a long time, and you only need a tiny amount. It absorbs into the skin beautifully (think makeup primer but for your vagina), washes off easily, and the packaging is absolutely gorgeous. The travel-size bottle is TSA-friendly and discreet enough to keep on your nightstand without screaming "lubricant."

‍

Best for: Anyone looking for a high-quality, long-lasting lubricant. Just remember: silicone lubes can break down silicone sex toys, so use with caution if that's a concern for you.

‍

Where to buy: Buy Uberlube on Amazon

‍

2. Hey Sweet Cheeks (Water-Based with Aloe Vera)

‍

Why we love it: This was our surprise winner in the non-silicone category. If you prefer water-based lubricants or can't use silicone with your toys, this is the one.

‍

The experience: Clean, clear, and almost scentless. The texture is smooth without being too watery, and it stays around longer than other water-based options we tested. The bottle has great control (no accidental spills!), and the packaging is beautiful with a velvet-touch box. Made with aloe vera and cannabis sativa seed extract, it's hypoallergenic and gentle.

‍

Best for: Anyone who wants a natural, water-based option that performs better than basic drugstore brands.

‍

Where to buy: Buy Hey Sweet Cheeks on Amazon

‍

3. Slippery Stuff (Water-Based Gel)

‍

Why we love it: This is a urogynecologist favorite, and after testing it, we understand why. Despite being water-based, it has a gel consistency that behaves almost like silicone.

‍

The experience: Very thick and jelly-like, glycerin-free, and long-lasting. It doesn't feel as watery as typical water-based lubricants, which means less reapplication during use. You get a lot of product for your money, and it's consistently reliable.

‍

Best for: People who want a water-based option that's safe for silicone toys but still has substantial staying power.

‍

Where to buy: Buy Slippery Stuff on Amazon

‍

4. Walgreens Water-Based Lubricant

‍

Why we love it: Sometimes the best option is the most accessible one. This generic drugstore lubricant punched way above its weight class.

‍

The experience: Scentless, good consistency (thicker than you'd expect from water-based), and excellent bottle control. It actually outlasted the name-brand KY lubricant in our comparison. No fancy packaging, but it gets the job done remarkably well.

‍

Best for: Anyone on a budget or needing something in a pinch. You can find this at practically any Walgreens, and it costs less than most alternatives.

‍

Where to buy: Buy on Walgreens website

‍

5. KY Water-Based Liquid

‍

Why we love it: It's the classic for a reason. When you need something reliable and widely available, KY delivers.

‍

The experience: Very liquid (it's in the name!), clear, and scentless. More watery than the Walgreens generic, but still effective. We tested both the "Liquid" and "Ultra Gel" versions and honestly couldn't tell much difference — so save your money and go with the cheaper option.

‍

Best for: A trusted name-brand option that you can find at any drugstore or pharmacy when you're traveling or need something immediately.

‍

Where to buy: Buy KY Water-Based Liquid on Amazon

‍

Top 2 Vaginal Moisturizers

‍

Important note: Vaginal moisturizers are NOT the same as lubricants. They're designed for ongoing comfort and to supplement vaginal estrogen therapy, not specifically for sexual activity. Think of them as skincare for your vagina: they help with daily dryness, irritation, and tissue health.

‍

1. Replens (Internal Vaginal Moisturizer)

‍

Why we love it: This is the gold standard that we recommend to patients constantly. It's effective, accessible, and works for up to three days per application.

‍

The experience: Comes with single-use applicators that are easy to use (similar to yeast infection treatment applicators). The formula contains glycerin, mineral oil, and has a smooth, cloudy-white consistency that feels immediately soothing. It's designed to be inserted into the vagina where it replenishes internal moisture.

‍

Best for: Managing vaginal dryness between estrogen treatments, or for anyone experiencing irritation from hormonal changes. Safe for people with recurrent vaginitis.

‍

Important: Contains mineral oil, so don't use it as lubricant with condoms.

‍

Where to buy: Buy Replens on Amazon

‍

2. VMAGIC Vulvar Balm by Medicine Mama (External Vulvar Moisturizer)

‍

Why we love it: Our surprise winner! This external balm is perfect for the vulva (outside tissue) and has applications for women of all ages.

‍

The experience: Comes in an adorable tin with a balm consistency — you need to warm it between your fingers before applying, just like lip balm. Made with virgin olive oil and other natural ingredients, it's incredibly moisturizing but does have a slight grainy texture that melts with warmth. It’s shiny when first applied (because of being oil-based), so use it best at night or when you have time for absorption.

‍

Best for: Post-shave or wax irritation, pregnancy and postpartum care, perimenopause, or as a protective barrier for elderly patients with skin breakdown from incontinence (better than Aquaphor!). Great for travel since it's not a liquid.

‍

Note: Oil-based products can stain underwear, so plan accordingly.

‍

Where to buy: Buy VMAGIC on Amazon

‍

Key Takeaways

‍

For lubricants:

  • Silicone-based lasts longest but can't be used with silicone toys
  • Water-based is versatile and safe with all toys, but may need reapplication
  • Generic drugstore options can be just as good as (or better than!) expensive brands
  • A little goes a long way with quality products
    ‍

For vaginal moisturizers:

  • They're for daily comfort, not sexual activity
  • Use them to supplement vaginal estrogen therapy
  • Internal moisturizers (like Replens) work differently than external balms (like VMAGIC)
  • Both serve important but different purposes in vaginal health

‍

Teresa: Hi guys! This is another episode of Hormones and Hellfire, just a little different. We are doing a lubrication review. We spent a ton of money on different types of lubes and vaginal moisturizers and we're just going to go through them. None of this is sponsored, we paid for all of this — and yeah, let's get started.

‍

So we kind of grouped it. We showed you the picture earlier of all the stuff we bought, and so this is sort of our mixed bag of silicones and other things, basically anything that's a mix or water-based. I thought that's the best we can do.

‍

Diana: It's a mixture of naturals and synthetics, so not everything is all natural. You have to kind of take a look and read on, because they have aloe vera on this one, and then natural lemon, vanilla flavor…

‍

Teresa: And then this one is coconut.

‍

Diana: This one says it's a natural glide aloe base. They all say they're either aloe based or silicone-free or glycerin-based.

‍

Teresa: This one is straight up silicone, but I love it.

‍

Diana: It's my favorite to recommend to patients simply because it would even advertise superior performance, but the silicone base I feel like lasts a lot longer. The water-based eventually starts to chafe.

‍

Teresa: And you just have to reapply it.

‍

Diana: Who wants to stop in the middle?

‍

Teresa: Okay, so let's pick one and go through it.

‍

Lubricant #1: Uberlube

‍

Teresa: So this is Uberlube. Look how pretty that is! I mean, it's so pretty.

‍

This is the travel size one that I picked out because I figured I could use it. I hope my mother doesn't watch this.

‍

Diana: Look at that — a private way of carrying it.

‍

Teresa: This is 15 ml so it can go into the TSA, and the nice bedside one is really pretty, and it also comes in a similarly nice bottle.

‍

Diana: It has a decanter glass bottle. They have great packaging, but it's also a great lubricant in itself. Very very slippery, easy to wash off.

‍

Teresa: Typically we don't use silicone lube with silicone sex toys or vibrators because it will break down the silicone. That being said, if you need to buy another sex toy because you're using it so often with lube, I feel like that's probably a win. But you know, that's just my personal opinion.

‍

Diana: It's super slippery. You use very little. Like a tiny drop going a long way. Yeah and it kind of absorbs. I feel like it's like one of those makeup bases — a primer. Exactly. Actually, silicone's already in primers. So it makes your skin poreless and it will also make your vagina poreless.

‍

Lubricant #2: Woo More Play

‍

Teresa: This one is called Woo. It says “coconut love oil” which we do recommend — coconut oil for people that want to do natural stuff. So that's a nice idea, rather than going into your kitchen just pulling out this.

‍

Diana: All organic non-gmo if that is something that you're looking for.

‍

Teresa: Also nice packaging, which I feel is important only because it stays at your bedside. I mean, no one wants to look at an ugly bottle. We have some ugly bottles coming up though.

‍

So this is our Woo bottle. Probably has a seal.

‍

Diana: The only thing I don't like about the squeezy ones is it can be really hard to control how much you get out. You know, one spray is plenty, and we'll go over that too — but you use more when you use these packages.

‍

Teresa: Oh, this is nice! And it says this is not a contraceptive and it doesn't contain sperm.

‍

Diana: [it spills] Exactly what I was saying about!

‍

Teresa: Perfect timing with “sperm”. It just comes out like sperm.

‍

Diana: It even looks like it! It has a nice smell. It smells like a vacation. I'm gonna put it on your hand because I don't want it all over mine. This one's a little stickier.

‍

Teresa: It feels like coconut oil does. It has a definitely distinct smell, so if you don't like it or you're allergic this is probably not a good one for you.

‍

Diana: It says keep above 69 degrees. We're definitely in an office that is well above 69 degrees. It's cold here actually. But it's over 69 right?

‍

Teresa: Yeah, definitely. I wonder what happens to it. We should try and put it in the fridge. [...]

‍

Lubricant #3: Hims and Hers

‍

Diana: Next one is Hims and Hers. Hims and Hers is a really popular brand for hair loss.

‍

Teresa: They're an online telehealth company that does urgent care. They do everything, a little bit of everything.

‍

Diana: Oh, this is a beautiful bottle.

‍

Teresa: That's nice. That's a pretty bottle. It's like, opaque. Is that the word? It's plastic. You know I'm not gonna hold that against him. Him. Her.

‍

It says it's a natural glide lubricant. Natural glide. An aloe based lubricant that you use in your body, your partner's body, sex toys, and condoms. So it's not silicone.

‍

Diana: I do like these kinds of sprays where you can just really measure.

‍

Teresa: Look at that. It's clear. Hold your hand up so everyone can see it — super clear.

‍

Diana: This one definitely is not a silicone base. No it's not. You can definitely tell. This is water based.

‍

Teresa: It has a very faint odor. Oh this smells like citrus.

‍

Diana: So when it's water based, when you rub it, can you tell it looks like water? It literally looks like you've washed up.

‍

Teresa: Our skin is going to be amazing. At least my left hand. I would still say this is better than the coconut one but it's water-based at its core, so we probably should put it in a different bottle.

‍

Lubricant #4: Good Clean Love

‍

Diana: These are both from Good Clean Love. One is more hyaluronic acid, and this one sounds like it's much more natural — organic aloe water based.

‍

Teresa: Oh yeah, this is a hybrid. Let's do the hybrid.

‍

Diana: This is a natural lemon vanilla flavor so it has a taste. This is called Almost Naked and it's a patented technology for vaginal microbiome support. Honestly guys, don't buy it because of that.

‍

Teresa: You know what they also have? These guys also make a fertility safe lubricant but I don't know if this is what they have.

‍

Diana: There are two of them, they're bio-nude and bio-nourish. Ultra sensitive as well as hyaluronic acid vaginal gel.

‍

So you know, women sometimes call us and say they're super dry when they wipe. It just feels like their underwear is sticky or when they're running they're chafing. This is kind of for that.

‍

Teresa: So I have the Good Clean Love Biomatch Hybrid. This is a silicone and water-based lubricant with hyaluronic acid. I'm a huge fan of hyaluronic acid. This is not clear, so it is like a milky color. Cloudy. That's a nice word.

‍

Diana: I don't think milky is a good word. This one has the same smell as the Hims and Hers. It's the same. I bet you it's the aloe vera.

‍

Teresa: So this is what it looks like when you start rubbing it on — it's almost like melted jello. Have you ever got those Japanese candies that come in a jelly you're supposed to put in the fridge so it hardens up?

‍

Diana: This one wears off, I think. This one will wear off really quickly. You can usually tell when you rub it back and forth and it's already gone.

‍

Teresa: I think that's the silicone component of it. I don't know. This is not my favorite.

‍

Diana: I would still say that if I had to pick one. I would say Hims and Hers. So over here are these two together. They're very similar, guys. I don't know if there's a difference between them.

‍

Teresa: I don't know if I would like them depending on what the cost is. I don't know if that would even make it or break it for me.

‍

Lubricant #5: Hey Sweet Cheeks

‍

Diana: Hey Sweet Cheeks. This box is very pretty. It feels like a velvet box. If you're mesmerized by packaging like me, that would be it. So this one says it's hypoallergenic. It's made with aloe vera again and cannabis sativa seed extract.

‍

Teresa: Oh my god, look at that. That's a cute bottle. What does it smell like?

‍

Diana: Look, I like these bottles where you have to squeeze. It's slippery. It's like you do have to squeeze just a teeny bit.

‍

Teresa: It comes out clear. It's kind of watery.

‍

Diana: The bottle is very cool. This one is definitely water-based.

‍

Teresa: But it feels nice.

‍

Diana: It stays around a lot longer. It has a very faint odor…

‍

Diana: But not as strong as these two. I would say, what do you think?

‍

Teresa: Oh, I kind of like it better. I might put it over the Hims and Hers.

‍

Diana: Yeah, me too. Agreed.

‍

Teresa: Oh, this is nice. You know, I think the difference between these two would be, if you don't want a silicone one, for this package this would be my choice. Like for a kind of mixed non-silicone base, and then again it cannot be good for silicone based.

‍

Diana: Yeah, this is scentless, there's no odor. I do enjoy it.

‍

Teresa: Because there are people that don't care for smells. This is good. I like this one. This is great.

‍

Diana: That's a surprise. Yeah, it's a surprise with all of them. This one [Woo More Play] is just the formulation. It's definitely more liquid. It shoots out.

‍

Teresa: I don't know. That wouldn't be my choice. I think there's better options out there for what you're paying for.

‍

Water-based lubricants

‍

Teresa: We went to the store and got everything we could find.

‍

Diana: KY. Everybody knows KY.

‍

Teresa: Available over the counter. This one came from Amazon, and this other one is a generic one from Walgreens.

‍

Lubricant #6: Walgreens

‍

Diana: Really cheap! So let's give it a shot. Can’t go wrong with Walgreens. [Opens it] I like this container. See! Very easy to control.

‍

Teresa: Not pretty but functional.

‍

Diana: Water-based lubricants tend to not last as long if you're having a marathon sex escapade.

‍

Teresa: It's nice!

‍

Diana: And it’s water-based! It has no scent.

‍

Teresa: That's good. I don't know if I want a scent on my stuff and some people find it irritating. This is nice, it’s great! Not bad at all. It's a generic water-based lubricant. It actually sticks around longer than I would have thought.

‍

Diana: The container is so nice.

‍

Teresa: And when you think about water-based lubricants you want to typically use them with sex toys, vibrators, anything with silicone in them. But you know, that's not terrible.

This is so far our winner.

‍

Lubricant #7: KY Water-Based Liquid

‍

Diana: These two [grabs Walgreens and KY lubricants] have the same ingredient list. I wonder if this is just the generic version of the brand name. You don't know. [Opens KY lubricant] It also says...

‍

Teresa: That packaging is much better. I'm a huge fan of packaging.

‍

Diana: I think this one's going to be harder to control. It looks like a baby shampoo bottle.

‍

Teresa: It's pretty. Let's see what we've got. I wonder if you can tell the difference.

‍

Diana: Oh no. This one drips, guys. That one [Walgreens] is more like hand gel.

‍

Teresa: This is really like water. This is what you think of water-based lubricants. This is it.

‍

Diana: Oh yeah. You're right. Look, it has that thing where you rub it and it smears.

‍

Teresa: I'm going with the Walgreens one. Very clearly you can see the lube from Walgreens was my... I have to say this one's my winner right here. It's got some substance to it.

‍

Diana: KY was slightly more liquidy, more silky

‍

Teresa: Put them both. Put one on one hand and try it again.

‍

Diana: This one [Walgreens] comes out like a hand gel. This one will stay around longer.

‍

Teresa: Okay, so which one do you like better? If you're going to spend your money, what are you going to buy?

‍

Diana: This one [Walgreens]. I think this one's cheaper.

‍

Lubricant #8: KY Water-Based Ultra Gel

‍

Diana: Let's do both KY's together

‍

Teresa: These are the two that we bought. I'm not really sure if they're different.

‍

Diana: One is KY Water-Based liquid, and the other one is Water-Based Ultra Gel.

‍

Teresa: Let's try it out. Well, the bottle looks similar.

‍

Diana: Same ingredients, right? What does that mean?

‍

Teresa: Water-based PEG 400 is this one that we're opening right now. Glycol, xanthan gum. And then this one, the small bottle that we didn’t like earlier, was water and glycerin. Those are the primary ingredients. So these actually have very similar ingredients, these two together.

‍

Diana: This one looks watery already [KY Water-Based Liquid]. Look, when you shake it, you can see it moves like water, not like gel. It's also scentless. No scent, no scent, no scent.

‍

Teresa: This one feels exactly the same as this one.

‍

Diana: I believe the Ultra Gel was more expensive than this one. You got less from the same.

‍

Teresa: Yeah, they're very similar. I can't tell the difference. Still so far, my winner would be Walgreens. I'm pleasantly surprised with that one.

‍

Lubricant #9: Slippery Stuff

‍

Diana: This one has a cool name: Slippery Stuff. And you get a lot!

‍

Teresa: You know, urogynecologists love this.

‍

Diana: No way.

‍

Teresa: They love it. My kids opened it.

‍

Diana: It's been contaminated!

‍

Teresa: It's what happens when you're an OBGYN kid. Ooh, it's very jelly. This is probably why they were playing with it. This is nice. This is why they like it. So, it's water-based, but it still goes on almost like a silicone.

‍

Diana: Definitely thicker, very thick. This is water-based?

‍

Teresa: Yeah. It doesn't act water-based. Glycerin-free. There's a small sample size one. Yeah, it's a gel lubricant.

‍

Diana: Ooh, this is nice. That one wins.

‍

Teresa: This was from Amazon. Slippery Stuff, I got it from Amazon.

‍

So, if you are in the middle of the night at Walgreens, I would 100% grab the Walgreens one. Because Walgreens, typically, they have a silicone option. And then this one [Slippery Stuff] came from Amazon. That texture is better than the other one.

‍

Diana: This one wins.

‍

Top Five Overall Lubricants

‍

Diana: Okay, so top five of our lubricants.

‍

Teresa: Number one: Uberlube. I mean, it is silicone-based. This is the travel size. It's so cute. Packaging, 10 out of 10 every single time. This was cool on the airplane.

‍

Diana: It's just everything. It gets everything right.

‍

Teresa: [Hey Sweet Cheeks] This was our surprise. I don't even remember where we got this from.

‍

Diana: But the texture is great. Aloe Vera, all natural. If you are not for silicone, this is a great option for you. The bottle gives it out in a pretty controlled fashion. And it's really cute.

‍

Teresa: And then number three is Slippery Stuff. This was another kind of surprise of the silicone water-based lubricants. All the urogynecologists talk about this as a popular thing. And yeah, didn't disappoint. Top three, for sure.

‍

Then this one [Walgreens]. I mean, you cannot beat it.

‍

Diana: Cost-wise, we chose it. The bottle has nice control. Has no odor. Can't go wrong.

‍

Teresa: And then, like a nice drugstore brand to round it off. [KY Water-Based Liquid] This one is cheaper. It's going to get the job done.

‍

Diana: KY. Can't go wrong with KY. We chose the cheaper one. You don't need to buy all those specialty KYs. They're the same. But in a jam, if you need to get something, this will work.

‍

Teresa: So then, let's rank it by cheapest.

‍

Diana: Cheapest? [Walgreens] This wins. And then, it's easy to get. It's at Walgreens.

‍

Teresa: But yeah, here we go. Top five lubricants, yay!

‍

Vaginal Moisturizers

‍

Diana: All right. We're going to go into our series of vaginal moisturizers. Many of these you find at your local grocery store.

‍

Teresa: I got these on Amazon. None of these are prescriptions. And these have a different role than… I think a complementary role would probably be the way I'd say it, to vaginal estrogen. They would like you to use it all the time. But that's financially challenging for a lot of people. So, you would use vaginal estrogen, and then this would sort of supplement the dryness. It does not replace lubricants. This is just for your own personal comfort.

‍

Moisturizer #1: Replens

‍

Diana: Replens is the one that I actually recommend all the time. I see this on every single drugstore, and then a lot of women will say they use it. Though, there are many types of Replens out there. They have all sorts of things.

‍

Teresa: I saw this because I had this applicator, which I thought might be nice. This is a one-time use for this applicator. It says you can use it for anything, but this is to help replenish internal vaginal moisture and supplement the body's natural lubrication for up to three days.

‍

Diana: This is what the applicator looks like. It reminds me of a smaller version of a yeast monostat treatment where you fill it up with medication and push it in. But you twist off the top here, and then you squeeze it, you insert it in the vagina, and then squeeze — and out it comes.

‍

Hydronic acid usually is cloudy, it’s like a cloudy white. This is glycerin and mineral oil, so it does have a cloudy appearance to it. And it does feel really good.

‍

Teresa: Does it? Oh, this is nice.

‍

Diana: And this goes in your vagina, not on your vagina. I mean, it does come out, I bet, but it actually feels really good.

‍

Teresa: Again, not lubricant, totally different, but vaginal irritation is perfect for this.

‍

Diana: You know why you also shouldn't use it as a lubricant? Because mineral oil and condoms don't go together.

‍

Moisturizer #2: Hyalo Gyn

‍

Diana: Okay, speaking of that, here is Hyalo Gyn.

‍

Teresa: It's hyaluronic acid.

‍

Diana: The kind that we put on our faces, that we're going to put in your vagina. This one comes with dispensers also. It has three little applicators, and it's tiny. This is a tiny, tiny bottle.

‍

Teresa: It's a sample.

‍

Diana: Really?

‍

Teresa: This is hyaluronic acid derivative with some other words.

‍

Diana: Okay, this looks just like the stuff that you would use for monostats or…

‍

Teresa: Well, this is saying that it is a personal lubricant for vaginal application intended to moisturize and lubricate during sex. Maybe we have this in the wrong category.

‍

Diana: I would have never guessed that. Because I just assumed that it was hyaluronic acid.

‍

So you use the little lid. You break the seal, and then it's just like when you go and get monostat or other vaginal cream. You twist it in — vaginal estrogen works the same way. and then you fill it up. Okay, there's your dose. Untwist it, put my lid back on, and then you insert this into the vagina.

‍

Teresa: Okay, squeeze it out.

‍

Diana:  Let's see. Oh, it's so clear.

‍

Teresa: Look at that, it's very clear. That's nice. Oh, it feels really good.

‍

Diana: The scent is chemically… Yeah, it's definitely medical. That is an interesting smell.

‍

Teresa: You know, it's really thick. It's like the consistency of jelly almost. I don't know if I would use this as lube, but it feels nice. I bet it's definitely moisturizing. Let's see what that feels like.

‍

Diana: It's not like Vaseline-thick or estrogen, but definitely not as thin as the lubricant.

‍

Teresa: No, not like the lubricant.

‍

Diana: The smell is a very plastic-y smell.

‍

Teresa: It's probably more hydrating than I would say lubricating. I don't know if I would use that for lubrication.

‍

Diana: Right now, ranking-wise, we're really unsure. I would say that this one [Replens] feels really good.

‍

Teresa: Yeah, this one is great. It feels the best. Like a moisturizer?

‍

Diana: This one [Hyalo Gyn] I’m not sure about yet. Hyaluronic acid works by basically taking water and sticking it to the skin, keeping you from dehydrating your skin. These two might be two different ways to keep your vaginal moisture.

‍

Moisturizer #3: Ah Yes!

‍

Teresa: Let's do this one next because it looks like it's similar to the other one. It says Ah Yes! This is a vaginal moisturizing gel. This came from Amazon. It comes with a suspension. [opens packaging] That is really cute!

‍

Diana: This suspension looks exactly like the other one, Replens.

‍

Teresa: This is a water-based discreet natural silky gel. It replenishes moisture and lubricates intimate tissue to alleviate discomfort and vaginal dryness.

‍

Diana: See, Replens looks like this. Very similar. Ah Yes looks like this.

‍

Teresa: This has water, flaxseed extract, aloe vera. Everything else is just water.

‍

Diana: This one is also clear. Very clear.

‍

Teresa: This one smells good.

‍

Diana: Much more gelatinized. It has that clump. It does have a scent.

‍

Teresa: I don't know if I would rub it on the outside of my vulva or the outside of my vagina, but maybe on the inside of it, this would feel good. Because it is sort of coming apart. Like as you rub it, it's sort of getting clumpy. I don't know if this will absorb well, but who knows. Well, that's not bad. I think I would still say I like this more than the Hyalo Gyn.

‍

Moisturizer #4: VMAGIC by Medicine Mama

‍

Diana: Okay, I've got to say I'm most excited about this just because I love the packaging and the colors. I'm a sucker for packaging. It looks like it's going to come in a great, cute container.

‍

Teresa: This is an external vulvar balm.

‍

Diana: Oh, so cute!

‍

Teresa: Let me have that box. I'll read the box and you show them the cute package.

‍

Diana: Medicine Mama. Oh my God! Who doesn't like a good balm?

‍

Teresa: With clean, dry hands, apply directly to the vulvar skin. Best for restoring moisture post-shave or wax. Throughout your pregnancy, postpartum, perimenopause, or any time your vulva needs a little soothing hydration. All right. What do you think? Is it good?

‍

Oh, this is nice. Really, it's a balm.

‍

Diana: It's shiny, which means it might be oily. So it's virgin olive oil, you said, right? And the thing about the oils is you've got to remember it does stain your underwear and your pants.

‍

Teresa: You know, this has a little bit of a texture in there. It's not as smooth. What does this feel like?

‍

Diana: Have you ever used, like, a lip wax or a lip balm that has honey or chew wax in it? And you have to melt it between your fingers for a little bit and then put it on? This is exactly what that graininess feels like.

‍

Teresa: Yeah, but on your lips [puts balm on lips]

‍

Diana: It doesn't have a taste, guys. It's very moisturizing. That's great. Good lip gloss for the lips and the vagina. Don’t contaminate.

‍

You know, I think that it's great for a night time. Be naked in your bed, put it on, let it soak into your skin, and it helps. It's like an emollient. It’s also really useful for women who are older and using Replens — you know their skin breaks down, and we always tell them to put an emollient over there. If someone's taking care of you or yourself, you want to cover the skin so the urine doesn't keep touching against the skin. This is probably a really good thing for that. It's better than what I usually tell patients, which is Aquaphor.

‍

Teresa: Oh, you know, I usually tell people to just use baby butt cream.

‍

Diana: Oh, yeah, that too.

‍

Teresa: Okay, so different products, but I think that I like this one much more than I thought I would.

‍

Top Two Vaginal Moisturizers

‍

Teresa: So here are our top two vaginal moisturizers.

‍

This one [Replens] is really for internal use. It's got a nice dispenser, easy to use, sticks around. It's got a nice feel.

‍

Diana: I think this is a great all-around low cost compared to the other ones, and accessible to everybody.

‍

Teresa: Safe for over-the-counter use. Even if, let’s say, you have a history of recurrent vaginitis, you can still use this. We recommend this all the time. Look, I'm still playing with it because it sticks around.

‍

Diana: Then our surprise winner. VMAGIC Vulvar Balm from Medicine Mama. Love it.

‍

Teresa: Yeah, it's great.

‍

Diana: It's oil-based. It's mainly for the vulva, so the outside of the vagina and the labia. It has a great texture. I would rub it in your hand first, and warm it up a little, just like any other balm. And then you gently put it on the areas of irritation. Really great applications for both young and older women. And you can travel with it because it's not really a liquid.

‍Teresa: There you go!
